Fill-in-the-Blank Friday

It's Friday! I mostly like Fridays. Except for school. And work. And general busyness. And my football team losing on national television. But whatever. It's the weekend. And tomorrow means the start of my favorite season: college basketball season! Tomorrow night I will be with Jonathan at the Marriott Center cheering on my BYU Cougars. Life will be good.

And now, how about another edition of Fill-in-the-Blank Friday?

1.   When I was a kid I wanted to be      a WNBA basketball player    when I grew up. Yes, you read that right. I was going to play for the Utah Starzz.

2.   As an adult, my dream job would be   an attorney for a private university general counsel. Or a sports commentator. I'd be good at that.

3.  W hen I was younger I wanted to be just like  my parents. And that hasn't changed. I still want to be like them.

4. The childhood Halloween costume that I remember most was when I was    a 1950s girl. I always liked how I looked in the poodle skirt my mom made me (thanks Mom!).

5.  My favorite childhood toy was    probably my Easy Bake oven. Or my twirling ribbon. Or polly pockets. Really, I'm not sure if I had a favorite. Those are just some I can remember.

6.  The time I got into the biggest amount of trouble when I was a kid was when I     ...This is a tough one for me. I didn't get into too much trouble as a kid. Maybe my mom can think of something and comment!

7.  I get daily inspiration from    reading the Book of Mormon while I eat breakfast. Today's inspiration came from the book of Mosiah, chapter 2: "[C]onsider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness."

Some Halloween Cheer

Source

Halloween is on Monday. Because we've been so busy with work and school and everything, we haven't been very festive this year. I have some decorations up inside, but outside? We have a wreath. And that's all. We don't even have pumpkins (although we'll get some tonight at the pumpkin patch). We aren't going to any Halloween parties. We don't have costumes. We'll probably have trick or treaters (can't wait to see what costumes the kids these days are wearing). But Jonathan has work, so he'll go to bed around 8 pm on Halloween night.

I felt like the least I could do was listen to some Halloween-type songs. These are nontraditional Halloween songs (except for the first one, of course). I just thought it would be fun to put together a playlist of songs that sort of reminded me of Halloween. Feel free to take a listen. And if you have any suggestions of songs I should add, please suggest them in the comments!

By the way, have you seen the music video for Laura Marling's Ghosts? It's sort of creepy and Halloween-like.

Happy (almost) Halloween!

Fill-in-the-Blank Friday

As I mentioned on Tuesday, I am trying to blog more. Even if it's just something small. I've been reading my friend Elyse's blog, and noticed that she has been doing a weekly fill-in-the-blank post where she answers questions. Reading those posts have helped me get to know her better and find more things that we have in common. I guess the original idea comes from Lauren at the little things we do blog. She posts new fill-in-the-blank questions each week for you to answer. If you'd like to play along, all you have to do is follow her blog, and then answer the questions each Friday (or whenever you want, really--its your blog). So, here goes!

1.   Nothing says fall like      crisp mornings, crunchy leaves, and that distinct "fall" smell that is in the evening air.

2.   My favorite autumnal tradition is   going to college football games with my husband and family. Since I started my freshman year at BYU, my Dad has had season tickets to the football games. So I know every home football weekend, I'll get to see one (or more!) of my family members. And of course I love going with Jonathan too!

3.  My favorite fall treat is   difficult to say. There are so many wonderfully delicious fall foods. Currently, I am loving caramel apples .

4. Fall makes me think of    school and family    because   basically since I can remember, fall has meant the start of a new school year. This fall may be my last school year ever (we'll see...), though. And of course, the things that get me through the semester are weekends and holidays spent with my family.

5.  Autumn free form word association, go!    red and orange, falling leaves, frosty grass, scarves, pumpkin.

6.  My go-to outfit in the fall is     jeans, a comfy shirt, a cardigan, and a scarf.

7.  My favorite fall holiday is (Halloween or Thanksgiving)    Thanksgiving. I always have big plans for Halloween in my head, but never follow through on them. But there's nothing better than the lots of family, delicious food, college football, browsing ads, and napping that comes with Thanksgiving. Oh, and the fact that the next day you get to decorate for Christmas and listen to Christmas music (unless you can't wait and start in October...which I've been known to do).

There! That was fun, right? I thought so. How would you have answered some of these? Especially the fall treat one. I'm always on the lookout for a good treat. :)

Jonathan is off on a business trip to Seattle, but will be back late tonight. We're so silly. He won't even have been gone 48 hours when he gets home, but I still miss him terribly. There's just something about being in a different city from the person you love that makes you miss them so much, even if it's for a short time! Must be the distance. We are both independent and can get along fine when we have to be apart. We just don't like it.

Luckily my Mom decided to come for a visit this weekend! We went to dinner at the India Palace last night with my brother Garrett, and then to Yogurtland for dessert. And then we watched some Doctor Who and Psych! And hopefully she will help me out with some projects around the house today. I sure do love my Mom! She is the best.

Happy Friday everyone!

Tumblr Tuesday

In an effort to blog more routinely, I have decided to copy my friend Lauren (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, yes?) and do a weekly post of some of my favorite finds on Tumblr. Oh, you don't know what Tumblr is? Well it is awesome. Loads of interesting ideas, beautiful pictures, great quotes, gifs of your favorite tv shows and movies, and all things nerd. You can follow my Tumblr here. Or just check back here every week for some of my favorites.

So glad Psych is back on the air.

Truth.

Yes, it's like that.

One of the many reasons I love the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice? It is visually stunning.

From one of my favorite books, The Little Prince.

Lovely handwritten note from one of my favorite authors, Roald Dahl.

This book makes me laugh.

Coolest library ever. Anyone know where this is?

This is why Ravenclaw (my house, according to Pottermore) is the best--we have The Doctor.

This is me by about 9:30 every night.

Rose Tyler and The Doctor. This says it all.

Very true. Even in the law. And physics.

Someday I will see this in person.

Beautiful. And notice Paris--it really is "The City of Light."

Which one is your favorite? Do you have a Tumblr? If so, make sure to let me know so I can follow you!

What you've (apparently) all been waiting for...

Judging by the number of people who have asked me for these pictures... apparently you all want to see what I look like with a baby inside. Well, today is your lucky day! Unfortunately the picture quality is terrible because I had to take them myself since Jonathan is at work. But they will have to do. So, without further ado, here I am at 30 weeks:

Baby Room

During my fall break from school, Jonathan and I were able to find some great stuff for the baby room, and start putting it all together. We bought a crib at Target a while ago, but last week we found some awesome like-new bedding for it at a second hand store in Boise. We love the sports theme!

I actually had this same bedding set on my registry, but it was much, much more expensive than what we paid for it used. So we're happy.

Since the crib is dark brown wood, we wanted our furniture to match. We already had an older dresser that we were planning to use in the baby room. With a little primer and paint, we refinished it, and it looks awesome--like new!

Don't you love that stuffed alligator? The diaper cake was made by my sister-in-law's mother for my baby shower in Utah on Saturday. I was lucky enough to have two baby showers--one in Boise given by my Mom and Lisa Cornell (you can read about it HERE), and one given by my mother-in-law and sister-in-law Missy here in Orem. They were both fantastic. Very cute decorations, lots of family and friends, and some really great gifts. Thank you for everyone who came! Hopefully one of these days I'll do a post showcasing some of my favorite gifts. :)

And now my favorite! When my Mom came up to Utah a couple of weeks ago, I went with her and my mother-in-law to Savers to see if we could find any good stuff for the baby. We did find a glider chair for about $25. I wish I had a before picture. Let's just say... it was ugly. But it had potential. So Jonathan and I refinished the chair with the same paint as the dresser. And then my sister-in-law Missy went with me to pick out fabric, and then she very kindly did all of the sewing needed to recover the chair in the new fabric. Here is the result!

I love the bright color and how it looks in the room. I can see it every time I pass the doorway, and it makes me happy.

There are still many projects Jonathan and I want to do for the baby room before December! Only about 10 weeks (or hopefully less!) to go before we get to meet our little boy. :)

PS - Next time I get the house all cleaned, I plan on doing a video tour of the house so you can all see what it looks like (if you haven't had the opportunity to just come for a visit to see it in person)!
